European Championships Finals Day 1 review
The racing is finished for today with 12 gold medals having been awarded. What were the big shocks and big results?

Semi Finals
After the minor finals were finished for the day the semi finals commenced in the men's and women's single sculls, setting up some big draws for tomorrow's A finals.
Firstly Lauren Henry comfortably won her semi final with her still heavy favourite to take home gold tomorrow, then over in the Mens 1x Ollie Ziedler overcame his slower than expected heat by gliding to a 6 second lead in his race.
Finals
In the women's pair there was a very strong result by Romania (which we had correctly predicted here at Catch Rowing), winning by 7 seconds with the Czech and Italian crews rounding off the podium. The Romanians went back to back then taking the Gold in the men's pair.
Serbia then got a shock result by winning the men's double sculls ahead of the Spanish crew and a very famous partnership in Croatia's Sinkovic brothers, who could only manage a bronze.
The first British medal of the day then came when the PR3 mixed four fell to the GB crew who led from the 1k mark holding off Italy and France.
This then seemed to have opened the floodgates as both the men's and women's 4-s were won by GB crews, by margins of around a second. The women's quad couldn't quite follow this trend, barely missing out on a podium in 4th place with that gold being taken home by Switzerland.
